Just 5 minutes away is a small Woodland Trust woodland, The Shrubbery, in the village of Wadworth (South Yorkshire).

This small woodland was once part of the grounds of Wadworth Hall and still contains some features including an old fishpond, Ha-Ha wall and the Gospel Wells. A 500m path runs around the edge of the wood.

The wood contains ancient species and it is designated as a Site of Scientific Interest. The trees include oak, sycamore, elm, beech, yew and lime. The shrubs are dominated by snowberry, bramble and blackthorn. Species also include, ransoms, bluebell, dogs mercury, wood melick and yellow archangel.

We went on an autumn day, late afternoon as the sun was about to set. It had been raining and the paths were slightly wet, good footwear recommended at this time of the year. There are steps down to the old pond. Below are a selection of photos, the slideshow should start automatically. Hover over the image to read the description.
